Life is challenging. Many times in our lives we will be able to take on these challenges and find our own way through, but sometimes we can feel stuck or overwhelmed and they can feel like mountains. Try as we may, they seem impossible to climb alone.
Recognising when we may need support to find our way forward can be a big step and a brave one too. Counselling can provide the opportunity to pause, to be heard and to hear and understand ourselves in new ways.
Now you’re ready to take that step, I’m here for you and provide that safe, non judgemental, compassionate space you need to work out what’s going on for you now and how you might like that to be different in the future.
People from all walks of life come to counselling for lots of different reasons and, from experience, I know it can feel a daunting step to take.
Perhaps you’re struggling with persistent anxious thoughts, feelings of hopelessness, relationship issues, navigating loss or trauma, experiencing addiction, or fertility or family difficulties…..please know you’re not alone.
I understand we are all shaped by our experiences and never cease to be amazed at the human spirit that adapts in order to survive. Sometimes we may be so used to behaving and relating in the ways that have been necessary in the past, other possibilities are out of our awareness.
Together, and at your pace, we can explore the challenges you are facing now, gently turn over the stones of experience, with patience and compassion, to bring about new awareness and new possibilities for the future.
Some people find simply having the space to talk and be heard is enough to see significant change. Psychoeducation can also be incredibly useful in helping to understand some of the difficult feelings and experiences we're working through. Working creatively using objects or cards can also help bring awareness to emotions just below the surface. Working together, we can find what’s useful to you on your journey.
I believe connection with others, and to ourselves, is essential for living well. There have been challenging times in my life when I moved away from that connected feeling and by reaching out for support through counselling I was able to come back to myself and find my way forward.
After many years of successfully working in a high pressure corporate environment, I recognised I wasn't where I wanted to be and embarked on the next step of my life journey, completing a Psychology degree through the Open University and then a further four years training to obtain my Counselling qualifications. I know now I am where I am meant to be and split my time working in private practice and volunteering with a counselling charity in Gloucestershire.
I am a qualified, trauma informed Integrative Therapist drawing from Gestalt, Person Centred, Transactional Analysis, Attachment Theory, Polyvagal Theory and Existentialism. This means I have been trained in a number of different modalities and theories which allows us to find which approach bests suits you and your needs.
Above all, I am me; warm, kind, compassionate and deeply committed to working with clients to find their own way forward by providing genuine support, gentle challenge and true collaboration.
